Introduced in summer 2003, Plush Pony Billy commemorated the life of a real Wells Fargo horse from Minnesota.
Wells Fargo wagons, pulled by trusty steeds like Billy, were a familiar sight on Main Streets all across America. Billy performed heavy-duty work, but was also one of the first media stars — he was featured in the February 1914 issue of Wells Fargo Messenger:
All the express boys in St. Paul, Minnesota” called Billy “Wells Fargo & Company’s ‘Switch Engine’... as he performs his important duty of hauling our freight between the depot shed and the warehouse...
